The boys are currently into dinosaurs. My youngest on one of our craft mornings asked if we could make one. Of course I said yes. I love any excuse for me to get messy.
So scrap paper and papier mache came to mind. We first had to model the dinosaur into shape by screwing up up paper to make a long neck and tail, then two more long pieces of paper and attaching over to create the legs.
We then scrunched up smaller balls of paper and secured them in place with tape and elastic bands to create a body. Using papier mache paste and strips of paper we to covered the tape and bands.
This activity took a few days to create as we built several layers and we needed to allow drying time.
Once we had our model my eldest drew a picture with colours to 'plan' how our dinosaur should look when painted.
To paint our creation we used powder paints. We mixed out several primary colours and then created our own colour combinations. It was a fun family activity that even my husband got involved with.
We added PVA glue to our colours to create a better coverage. It took a few coats...
....and the colours did get mixed and didn't end up as bright as planned, but here it is...
