I often get asked what do I do? Well I am a stay at home mother.
WOW…Obviously I must have a right ball, I get to sit on the settee and watch Jeremy Kyle all day!!! Erm NO!
For one thing I hate that programme! For the other as anyone who is a parent will tell you that being a parent/carer is more than a full time job, we don’t get to have holidays and we don’t get to leave all our stress and worries in the office we have it all the time. It is a 24/7 job!
Would I change it? No chance, I love it.
Well I am not going to rant on or turn into some Earth mother, but I do often get asked a little about myself so I thought I would blog about it, here you can choose to read it or if you are bored already switch web pages now! I am not bragging or boasting or anything of the sort, I am just telling you what I do with my time for those that are constantly asking.
Not only am I a mum, we also know all the other jobs that go with that; carer, teacher, feeder, dietician, cook, cleaner, house keeper etc… I chose to have many other tasks to keep me busy as that is just the sort of person I am.
Firstly after giving up work as a college lecturer to care full time for my first born I decided I needed a little pocket money of my own and that I also wanted to get to know people in the village. So I became an Avon representative. I don’t go knocking on every door and I am no good at the hard sell but I did drop off a few books with some of my neighbours and after a few years I would like to call them my friends, through this I have made a nice social circle for myself where I live.
Whilst pregnant with my second born, I decided I wanted some me time at night, so I decided to embark on a nail technician course at night college. I have always had a passion for nails and really enjoyed doing the course and was actually the geek in that I completed the course work first and graduated early, so my second job when I have time is a nail technician. However, with very little time it tends to be for family and friends in exchange of favours!
I have always been crafty and started selling some of my crafts to friends and family and at fayres several years ago under my craft name Emzee’s cards and crafts. As well as making and designing wedding stationery. Since having the boys I have changed my name to The Blue Balloon and now share all the crafts I make through my website and my Facebook page. This job is also my hobby and I love it so decided to make some money from it.
Preschool…my eldest now attends preschool and to meet other parents in the village I decided to join the committee. At my first meeting I was elected the Membership Secretary, this is all voluntary. This means that all children that wish to attend have to apply through my booking system and I have to allocate places that are available and during busy times of the year I can be constantly on the phone and laptop.
As well as this I volunteer to run fun sport sessions at the preschool for the little one. This relates back to my first love of sport and working with children.
Is that all? Not quite, on top of this when I get chance I am part secretary, web designer and book keeper for my husband’s plumbing business.
So what do I do in my spare time? Well if I am not having fun with my family, yes my family, or out on date nights with my husband, I love catching up with my friends, whether it be couples night or a carpet picnic with the girls I love it. As for me time, I now treat myself to a monthly membership at Bannatynes, so if I am not in the pool or at yoga, you will find me in the hot tub! xxx
