Jake’s Arrival

Our second beautiful little Turner boy arrived on Friday 14th October 2011, at 5.40am, we named him Jake Evan.  He was over due, like his older brother or late should we say just like the Turners! The original date for his arrival was our Wedding Anniversary the 11th but at the scan we were told he would arrive sooner on the 9th which would have given him a DOB of 9/10/11.
The labour this time was a lot faster although I had been through it, I still forgot what contractions actually were like and the different intensities. I had a few a couple of days prior, but on Thursday night I shot out of bed (at 11pm)with an incredible pain in my leg, now being heavily pregnant and being able to shoot out of bed says something for how intense the pain was.  Constant contractions followed so a phone call to the hospital and they expected us in. Luckily Rhys was at his grandparents so no emergency drop offs were needed.
However, just like with Rhys during the journey to the hospital the contractions slowed down and I was told that I was only 2cm dilated, 3 at a push. I had a choice to stay in or go home. I chose home thinking this could take days. Just as we left though the doctor told me not to leave it too late as a mum had just left in the same situation and gave birth at home. Now we do not live close to the hospital so I began to worry.
We arrived back home, went straight to bed and an hour later I shot back out with the same shooting pain down my leg. This time though I decided to get in the bath to ease my discomfort and also to see if they were going to stop again like before but they didn’t. A scream to the husband to let him know he better ring the hospital again and a scramble to get out of the bath and get dressed whilst doubling over in pain followed soon after.
Now I sang 2 random nursery rhymes during the car journey and in labour which have also become lullabies to get Jake to sleep. These were the Alphabet song and Once I Caught A Fish Alive.
On arriving at the hospital I pretty much crawled to the entrance until a cleaner saw me and grabbed a wheel chair, I was rushed into a labour suite where I was told I was still only 5cm, yet all I wanted to do was push, after an agonising walk to the toilet (in the room) I came out saying I needed to push and was told I could ALREADY? is what I asked. Within an hour Jake had arrived, he looked so much smaller than his brother did at only 2 ounces lighter (Rhys weighed 7lb 7oz) he was also petite.
We had to stay in the hospital for the day as his temperature was low, so lots of skin to skin contact (cuddles) from mummy. This led to five changes of clothes in less than 12 hours! Also meant having to borrow an outfit from the hospital. Once we was given the all clear we was able to set off to be greeted in the car park by a flat tyre! Well a lovely story to tell him when he is older hey!
