The arrival of Rhys James Turner

WARNING LOTS OF DETAIL!!!!
The baby will come when they want to........ I heard that several times & Wiggles was far too too comfy. My due dates had been changed already from Friday the 21st August to Monday the 31st of August & I was getting irritable. I was huge, uncomfortable & fed up, I used my annual leave to take most of August off in preparation, & with the way I was feeling, I thought the baby would be early.

August came and went, I was not happy! So we were now into September on the Wednesday I went to see my midwife for a sweep to help move things along. At this stage I was even jumping up & down on my bed. So I was quickly cheered up when she told me I was already 3cm & also very surprised as I had no pain. Mark was told to be close by as it could be soon, & more than likely by the weekend.

Thursday I started to get pains, so I saw her again and she said I was 4cm and if I wanted to go to the hospital I could. I decided to wait until I really needed to go in as I was still coping, so waited until that night. When I got there I was between 4-5cm. I was told to stay there because I lived 30 minutes away & things could change quickly. However, the night was slow I was coping with my tens machine & even nodding off to sleep. I like that throughout the night, my waters hadn't broken yet, and they didn't induce me because I was coping & were so busy in the hospital (apparently it is baby boom month - Christmas party babies!). Although I found out I was pregnant on Christmas day!

Friday in the labour ward. I was taken to the ward to be monitored instead of home because I lived 30 minutes away. However, I got forgot about. The pain got worst & I got upset. I more or less demanded to go home that afternoon! A nice midwife who had just got on shift decided I could. So off we went, me refusing not to go back & to have a home birth instead I was fed up at this point!

Somehow I managed to sleep through the night & saw my midwife again on the Saturday, she couldn't believe I hadn't had the baby at this point, she said if I had a home birth she would have broken my waters when she saw me on Thursday. When she left I went for a very long walk. I was still having contractions, & coping really well. I didn't want to go back to the ward yet so I got Mark to feed me chips & curry whilst I was on my gym ball.

The long walk, worked a treat. However, Mark was very scared at this point my contractions were under 3 minutes, so we went to the labour suite, however, baby still didn't come for another 4 hours! I had my tens machine on quite a bit – They are great but after so long really just feel sore, so it was time for....Gas and air & it is great – demand it! After 2 hours they had to break my waters, from then all you want to do is push!

The baby had a poo whilst in the womb – it is called meconium & so they had to put a fetal heart rate monitor on me. The good thing was that I had been told by a friend that this had happened to his wife so I didn’t panic. I think I would of if I didn’t know about that. So 2 hours of pushing in every position possible a little green baby was put on me (because of the meconium) and I was just in shock - what is it?

A boy, weighing 7pounds 7ounces, you cannot explain the emotions that you are feeling, it is just the best ever!
